Business English

English is the international business language, and improving your skills can open doors to new employment opportunities, market sectors or supply lines.

There are many elements of English that are of particular use in the business environment, but none of them are as important as a basic foundation in communication skills.  You can learn all the key expressions, but if you don’t know how to use them in a sentence, they won’t help you much.

Assuming you have the basic skills (and, if not, go back a page and book a lesson to help develop them!) then there are many areas that are worth focussing on to learn key vocabulary, specific terms and the ways to use them cohesively to deliver clear, effective business communication.

In each section below we will look at:

  • Vocabulary – All the words you’ll need to know
  • Context – How and when to use the vocabulary!
  • Idioms – Get “the upper hand” in the “uphill battle” to master idioms.  It’s a “no brainer”!
  • Collocations – words that go together naturally in English such as “hidden agenda” or “logical conclusion”
  • Phrasal verbs – we’ll look into what to look out for…
  • Acronyms – whether you’re in R&D, CRM or SCM you’ll need to learn these ASAP.
